Hyundai lock out the top three positions after Ypres Rally's first loop. Craig Breen won two stages but lost his lead to Thierry Neuville on the loop's final test. "I haven't forgot how to drive on this black stuff," said Breen after his first fastest-time. "I have a car that is working for me, it's class. I love it!"

Adrien Fourmaux became the first victim of Ypres' notorious ditches on Stage 3. M-Sport's future star slid wide on a fast left-hander before spinning across the road to a standstill, just before the stage end. Both Tanak and Loubet slide wide into a grassy field entrance a stage earlier but they lived to tell the tale. Gus Greensmith became the second Fiesta WRC stuck in a ditch early in SS4.
