Wilson “keen to see” Devine’s Rally2 Fiesta ERC campaign

Callum Devine will complete his second successive European Rally Championship campaign in 2021 driving M-Sport’s latest Ford Fiesta Rally2. The Motorsport Ireland driver switches from Hyundai back to a brand that Devine has fond memories of in 2019.

Devine’s latest ERC challenge begins on June’s Rally Poland with the 27-year-old heading to Lithuania beforehand to use Rally Žemaitija as a warm-up.

The switch to M-Sport brings with it the attention of its World Rally Championship bosses Malcolm Wilson and Richard Millener.

“The European Rally Championship has long been a proving ground for young talent looking to make their mark on the world stage,” said M-Sport Managing Director, Wilson,” and it’s great to see another young driver choosing to take this route with the Fiesta.

“We’ve been aware of Callum for a number of years now following strong performances with the Fiesta R2 in Junior WRC and Fiesta R5 in Ireland.

“He’s got talent, and I’m keen to see what he can do as he tackles some of Europe’s most famous events with the Fiesta Rally2.”

Millener also vouched his support to Devine claiming that the County Derry driver has the talent to surprise this year. Talent that brought him recognition the last time he competed in a Fiesta. Devine was one of few drivers capable of matching Craig Breen and Alastair Fisher in 2019’s compelling Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.

After a difficult start on ERC’s opening rounds in Italy and Latvia last year, Devine progressively improved through the tail-end of the season. A ERC Junior podium on the Canary Islands Rally had Devine relishing the competitive series once again.

Now, with a new car and testing under his belt, Devine and co-driver James Fulton are ready to face some unfinished business in the eight-round European Championship.

The ERC’s opening round, Rally Poland, will take place on 18-20 June.
